Your Questions About Beer Making Tools

Mary asks…

how do you make a beer bong with not so many tools to do it with?

we don’t have much in the apartment.

Brian answers:

Its best to have a funnel, but im assuming u dont. Hmmmmm your gonna have to go all macgyver on this shit…… Get a gallon jug, cut the bottom out, cut a length of gargen hose and duct tape it to the inlet of the jug. Or if u dont have a hose just neglect it an lay down with the inlet on your mouth.Have fun

Helen asks…

How do you make non alcoholic beer into alcoholic beer with very few tools ie sugar, yeast and a container?

Brian answers:

You need to brew beer from scratch, or just add some vodka in it!!

Mark asks…

how to make a beer bottle chandelier without a kit?

my bf just bought his first house and i want to make him something really special and i wanted to do a beer bottle chandelier. All the kits ive found are really expencive and i know i could make it at home for less im just not sure of how. like the structure and what types of materials would work best and how to make it sturdy. I have access to all sorts of materials and tools so that wont be a problem. any help or suggestions would be awesome. thank you.

Brian answers:

Honestly, I’d think your BF might think it was pretty cool if you did this kind of a project together. So my advice would be to gather the beer bottles, some wire, a good quality glass cutter, and some heavy wire for the chandelier frame (along with tools to bend/shape it). Then wrap that up and make it the present along with a picture of what you have in mind. You know your BF though, so use your own judgement. That said, I think LOTS of guys would relish the opportunity to work on such a project for themselves. So if your BF isn’t the type, perhaps ask one of his friends to help with the project.

Joseph asks…

I’m making a beer pong table.?

Looking for a tool or any suggestions to make a cup holder for the dixie cups without putting a complete hole through the table.

Just a circular 2/12 inch diameter dent to hold the cups.
Anyone whose played beer pong knows this ensure cups won’t spill and beer won’t be wasted.

thanks for any ideas.

Linda asks…

Is it possible to use regular instant or “bread” yeast to homebrew beer and is the tast affected by this?

I am curious about getting started in homebrewing and luckily my parents already have most of the neccessary tools but I am a college student without alot of money and am looking for an economic way to get started. I also want to add that I’m not a big partier and I don’t want to brew a beer just to get wasted. I would seriously like to make an excellent beer and do it well.

Brian answers:

Just today asked at my favorite homebrew supply store about champagne yeast. Yes, it will yield a higher alcohol content. But remember that it does so at the expense of the sweetness of the brew. Consider that some of your favorites do have some residual sugars.

As to using bread yeast: Absolutely! Go for it! Then compare the results with other yeasts you use. It could be that the beer most pleasing to your palate will be made with ingredients others would sneer at.

The only way to make a truly excellent beer is to make a truly horrible beer first, then figure out what needs to be changed. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box, either.

If you can make The Perfect Beer the first time every time, kindly post a picture of yourself walking on water…or even better: on beer.

Steven asks…

Husbands: Is it really our fault that your tools go missing, when you yourself are a total mess?

Between the four junk drawers, the 10 boxes of junk behind the couch, the Three car garage full of tools, hardware, cabinets, boxes, the front hall closet back to the rim of husband crap….Is it Truly the wife’s fault you are not organized and can’t find your crap? Wouldn’t it make sense to put down that beer, get off the couch and put your things away properly so you can find them again!! Or is this a master plan to throw us woman off so you can’t do the work if you can’t find the proper tools?

Brian answers:

Did you see where I put the tape measure?

John asks…

What type of cork should I use for corking beer?

Homebrewer; would like to cork beer instead of cap it. What type of cork and where can I buy it. Also, what type of tool do I use to make the cork mushroom like a champane cork. Thanks!

Brian answers:

You’re setting yourself up for a lot of expense and trouble. But, apparently, that’s what you want.

Try Orchard Supply Hardware. I’ve seen cappers there, so they should carry corkers, also. Orchard is also a source for corks. You’re on your own with the “mushroom” cork. I’ve never corked a sparkling wine. I and a wine making friend use caps. On his wine, though, he uses corks.

The last I checked, a capper was around $50, and a corker was around $200. The corks run double to quadruple the cost for caps. If you still want to cork, and are reluctant to pay that much for a corker, go to a wine making supply shop. They rent out equipment (including corkers) for a reasonable cost.

Nancy asks…

How can I make a wood burning stove out of a beer keg?

What about an oil drum (35 gallon drum)?
Tools are not a problem, I have a TIG Welder and plasma cutter.
Thanks!
I was also thinking about having the inside of the keg ceramicoated (The ceramic based powder coat that is used on exhaust)

Brian answers:

I believe that a beer keg would”nt have the right metal and would burn out with the heat from the fire. An oil drum would work as you can buy kits at some hardware stores, the kit has a door and a bracket for a chimney to hold the pipe on, it also has legs to attach. You will have to cut out the door and chimney opening and put the legs on, I had one and it worked fine.
