I read somewhere that some brands of beer are pasteurized and some aren’t. Is this true? I also read that pasteurization kills the yeast in beers. I’m trying to avoid consuming products with yeast so I am looking for some names of pasteurized beers.
I read wine doesn’t have yeast in it because once alcohol reaches 12% concentrations the yeast cannot survive
All beer has yeast in it, it is what makes the alcohol in the first place (so does wine), pasturising it won’t get rid of the yeast, it just helps preserve the beer.
What kind of party decorations for a 40th bday party with a Corona beer theme?
The 40th bday party will be combined with a New Year’s party as well so we need ideas in decorations. The theme will be Corona (beer). I will be doing the cake in a shape of a Corona bottle. Not sure what other ideas would be good. Any creative ideas?
Hello Cakester_JC!
Sounds like fun, no matter what the decorations are! I have two thoughts – and they are actually similar to each other.
The first is a Jimmy Buffett/Margaritaville theme (Corona is always a big sponsor of his tours):
1. Add some Buffett tunes to your party mix.
2. Decorate with palm trees, parrots, and other fun tropical things.
The second is a beach/tropical theme – because lying in the sand is the best place to drink a Corona!
1. Add some music with “surf sensibility” to your mix (you know, Jack Johnson, raggae, etc.)
2. Same tropical decorations.
3. Put leis on your guests when they arrive. You can get those at your local party store.
4. Have people show up in beach wear (hawaiian shirts, flip flops, sunglasses, etc.) and turn the heat up in your house for the night.
Heineken – sold in around 170 countries, is probably the best known beer in the world, but actually started in Amsterdam over 100 years ago, in 1863. 22 year old Gerard Adrian Heineken bought the De Hooiberg Brewery which was established in 1572] and in 1867 the brewery was transferred from the crowded centre of Amsterdam to the present site.
The old brewery is now used for popular tours [you will need to get there early to secure your place as no reservations are taken]. The tour will take approximately 1 hour … including a very brief tasting stop halfway round … and also calls in on the shire horses that stil pull the Heineken dray through the city streets. The dray is now used for tradition and promotion!
Then there is the part that everyone looks forward to – free Heineken. There are 2 tips – take the later tour as you will have longer to drink and also if you go on your birthday you may be presented with a gift [although you may be asked to prove your date of birth].
Did you know … 80,000 bottles of Heineken are drunk in Amsterdam each hour !! Also the company had to substitute the emblem of the original red star to a white star when it exported to America as drinkers declined it on the grounds that they thought it must be Communist beer. Ironic when it is now America’s number one imported beer.
